Thread: The Request thread

  1. #1

    Default The Request thread

    This thread is to express requests to designers - current or future - for particular aircraft. There's no reason why designers in metal or paper may not use them.

    Rules

    Each post on the thread is for one aircraft only.
    Each post shall include a 3-view plus scale, so the designers don't have to do tedious research.
    Each post should include wingspan, length, and height (to check scaling).
    Each post may include a rationale for why it's wanted, or any other info.

    There is no commitment to buy, nor commitment for designers to make anything on this thread.

    This thread is not "official" in any way, the Rules above are strictly my own invention, as I think there's a need. Maybe this should be moved to its own area.

    Good idea, such format would make it essier for the Manufactures what is realey wanted by games without having to go through lots of threads

    In theory a good idea, I'm guessing it's up to the designers to determine whether anyone's pet favourite has the legs for volume sales

    Fun! I have a to-do list of planes I personally want, but if someone posts something zany and out of the ordinary here, I may grab it and run with it!
    (And I have to say, these two that have been posted thus far are really neat.)

    Volume sales? Pish-posh! It's all about seeing whacky, wonky, oddball planes take to the skies!

    I was interested to see that you are looking at Sea planes Zoe.
    I have been canvassing Skytrex unashamedly for the last six months for a Lohner flying boat which is now in the pipeline, but it would be great to also see the Hansa Brandenburg W.18 as flown by Gottfried von Banfield produced. You can't get much more specialised than that. As you know I enjoy building the whole aircraft, but for a chance at that one I may have to compromise my principles.

    I sent Dave at Skytrex the plans for a Lohner after last year's Salute but nothing so far. So if John ain't worried about making money on these projects, then do a Lohner says I

    Are you open to WW2 suggestions as well?

    And I suppose one of these is out of the question?

    Frankly, I'm happy when I can sell one of my creations to me. Anything else is just icing on the cake. My main problem is a) I'm not a professional, so I can't whip these things out at the drop of a hat and b) making them does take time that gets in the way of gaming, painting and having time to be a dad. So, it's all about finding/making spare time. Right now my Shapeways queue is a Zeppelin-Staaken, the S.S.W. R.III, and maybe one or two others that I've started fiddling with. After that, who knows. And that is one crazy airship! Love it!

    If I suggest an accessory to a paper model that's just been released but has documentation in the model data-package, does that work? For example, Thorsten Brand very nicely documented his just-released-yesterday cardmodel of Luftschiff 13 including several diagrams of both early and late gondolas, and I'm thinking IF your contact could get Herr Brand's greenlight a Shapeways gondola set would go a very long way in "ruggedizing" the model for table and travel, even though the designer DID intend it for WoW/WGF applications.

    I'm not sure I can comply with the rules as all I want at the moment are modifications of current models, ie a late KD1 with enlarged tail, no "baby's coffin" and a fuselage mounted MG as flown by Kiss,

    This drawing shows the "coffin" fairing but this pic is of the later type with the synchronised MG mounted alongside the engine

    or a Oeffag DIII with a cowled engine,

    Bottom right

    or a Belgian Be2C with a Hispano engine and the gunner in the rear cockpit.

    Look forward to it - can we have both versions - ie a cowled version of the current one (as shown in the colour pic) and a cowled version of the traditional one as shown in the plan?

    For me it's the Caproni CA.4. It must be one of the few planes left where we have cards but no model.

    * Crew: 4 (pilot, co-pilot, front gunner, and rear gunner/mechanic)
    * Length: 13.1 m (43 ft 0 in)
    * Wingspan: 29.9 m (98 ft 1 in)
    * Height: 6.3 m (20 ft 8 in)

    Given the fact that I've done mostly German planes, and the fact that this has a card, I'm going to re-arrange my queue, and put the Caproni CA.4 ahead of the SSW R.III.
    I'll start work on it tonight.

    Which version is currently available? I know Colinwe has done at least one Oeffag D.III, but I'm not sure which it is.

    153, no cowl.

    I'd like a D-III OAW, with the rounded rudder.

    Colinwe's is (I think) 153.112 or later, which is when they introduced the new nose shape. Rather than reinvent the wheel I suppose we should really hassle Colin to modify his design to include the winter cowl

    Ah, but the oeffag D 3 was a fine plane.

    Back on track, I've already talked to Colin about the I-16, plus the two biplanes from WoW "Last Biplanes." I thought he might get some traction on both booster packs since cards and many paint schemes are in many hands, and after the two bombers we have no clue what or when on the next release for WoG WW2. I think the Me110 is long overdue and have a couple in the right scale in resin but WSF would be better.

    Just too late to see service before the Armistice, 370 were produced. Many ended up in service with Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Portugal, Spain, Ireland and the USSR.

    Large orders followed, with 1,450 ordered from Martinsyde, Boulton & Paul Ltd, Hooper & Co and the Standard Motor Company. It was planned to equip the French Aéronautique Militaire as well as the British Royal Air Force, and production of a further 1,500 aircraft in the United States of America was planned.

    Deliveries to the RAF had just started when the Armistice between the Allies and Germany was signed. Martinsyde was instructed to only complete those aircraft which were part built, while all other orders were cancelled. The Buzzard was not adopted as a fighter by the post war RAF, the cheaper Sopwith Snipe being preferred despite its lower performance

    Sure, I'll post progress reports along the way. I even have a placeholder for it on Shapeways, though this won't be its final url.

    I'll do my best to keep it below $40. Looking at it right now, there is a slight chance I may get it to be even lower. Anything is possible, I suppose. I was able to get that Nieuport Triplane in at under $6!

    According to the Aircraft Profile n°8, the speed at 10,000 ft was considerably higher and the time to get there was much shorter. Other than that, I can't see a big difference.
    Windsock datafile n°24 gives much less info about performances.
