I am very happy with the P-51D, Ki-84 and the Spitfire IX, but would have preferred the Fw190 'Anton' for some RAF vs Luftwaffe 1943 action.

The 'Dora' is a sweet aircraft, but as Karl states, like the WGF Sopwith Snipe, the Fw190D had a very short combat career.

Yes, the A-8 would have been a better choice I think to go head to head with the Spitfire Mk.IX they are giving us.

The P-51S is most likely going to come in Pacific theater markings, as it is intended to go up against the Ki-84 (it's main opponent in the war). While I love that they are giving us a P-51 (the most iconic US plane of the war by far), I personally would have rather seen a P-38 or F4U-4 for the Pacific.

But hey, at least we are getting word of the late war planes coming out!

Thanks for the Me110 paint guides, have got distracted so I am doing up an AIM one.

I was talking to CappyTom ( :earsburning: ) today, and I have to say your right about a P-38 or F4u-4 to go against the Ki-84.
When you think P-51, you think Europe, hands down. I look at the lineup, and I see a marketing mismatch. The Spitfire, Dora and Mustang in the European corner, and the Frank tooling along by itself. And again, the Dora is late, and not as iconic as the
    A models.

Note the Nexus not Ares logo. This product never appeared, though the design was at least partly complete.

Wings of War expansion kit with heavy fighters and two-engine bombers for the Second World War and the Spanish Civil War.
Bf.110, Beaufighter, Ki.45, Pe-2, Do.17, He.111, B.R.20 and B-25 are featured in several sub-variants, with color schemes of different nationalities.
So I think we have an idea what may be available in cards/decks, if not models. Probably models though eventually. Ki.45, Pe-2, Do.17, B.R.20.

  10. #60

    The design was totally complete.
The choice of planes was made, as usual, to use the maneuver decks in the box at their best. So there were very interesting planes, and othes less so but inserted since we judged they could share their decks. So yes, good guess - it would be handy to make them as miniatures since they are already designed... But I think that once the deck synergy becomes far less important - there will not be shared decks in the same pack - other more interesting planes will come first. B-17 and Lancaster, for example, are already being prototyped, and other multi-engine planes will appear for sure before our Fiar B.R.20 (even if it is not too bad - it took part to the Battle of Britain, among the many Italian campaigns, and it was even used by China and Japan).

  11. #61

Any chance a P -38 Lightning will come out in a future multi engine set? Great plane, famous plane, and a good selling plane for sure! The big difference is its speed compared to the other multi engine planes we Arron the verge of getting.

  12. #62

If they stay with bombers how about a Betty for Japan and a CantZ for the Italians. There are escorts already here so that may be a thought.

CRAP !! a Beaufighter, I will now have to by the whole damn WWII game just to fly one of those. Would be nice to see a Mosquito as well though.
Mind you I could go bankrupt at this rate.. (hmmm I can just hear the faint sounds of the 633 Squadron theme - taunting me, lol)

Great models, and the 110 and the Heinkel He111 will certainly mean some full on Battle of Britain action (with apologies to those who prefer the sunny seas of the Pacific)

So when do I get my beastly Black Widow with special advantages in nighttime games and its scorching load of .50s and cannons? LOL

  15. #65

    Default

So I figure you with one Black Widow and maybe 6 Zeros?

  16. #66

    Default

By day, or a nighttime scenario where the first warning you get that the Widow's even there is a bunch of new holes in your airframe? LOL I'd say that bird would need some special rules to reflect that it was specifically optimized to own the night at the cost of daytime handicaps...

  17. #67

    Default

Well, with the Lancasters coming out next year(?), I figure we'll have to come up with night rules soon, anyway.
Maybe when the '110 and Beaufighter come out, Zoe will have enough data to figure a deck for the 'widow.

Zeros didn't night-fight; that was left to modified bombers and other twin-engine designs.

I kid, gents, I kid. Just wanted to poke a little fun at the "When do we get [insert favorite here]?" crowd...

Any chance of the B-17 being retooled into a B-40 escort-gunship variant later? Twin .50s each waist position plus two dorsal turrets oughtta give Langenase Dora nightmares for sure...

I doubt it -- the YB-40 might come with a special P-38 (those who've read _Fork-Tailed Devil_ know why), but is generally too slow to be a challenge; I think we're more likely to get "Ol' 666".

    Just a question:

I wonder how much damage points the Bf110 & the Beaufighter will have?

The tail sections block the sight to the numbers on every picture.

I don't think that is an accident. I asked a question about that on Facebook and did not receive any response.

Like a bride on her wedding night, I think Ares is trying to keep a bit of mystery until the grand unveiling!

I think these are estimations, I have previously seen a pre-production Beaufighter card (from the old Rain of Destruction days) with 23 damage points.

Time will tell, and at least we won't have to wait long.

I am curious how these birds change the game. Beau with 23 hitpoints looks preety hard and dangerous target. I think we must to learn how to play with them.

Single seat fighters will be able to fly around these heavy fighters, just don't end up in front of the cannon - there are instances of Zeros being practically vapourised by a Beaufighter 2 second burst.

Bombers on the other hand are in BIG trouble.

I am thinking about new biplanes - 90 degrees maneuvres (even only lowspeed) may be a good way to overturn of heavy fighters. What do you think about this theory Carl?

If the pilot is on the ball, speed will win out; and you will probably only need 1 shot at the biplane with either the Beau or the 110.
