P-40 Kittyhawk wreck found in Egyptian Desert

This is absolutely hit for seekers. They found wreck of P-40 very well preserved. There you can see photos and read the background. Pilot Sergeant Dennis Copping survived the crash, but died trying to walk out of the desert. He did a camp next to his wrecked plane but didn't manage to last long on the dessert.

I wonder what happened to his airplane and why he went off the course. It's a pity that he had to fly a damaged airplane alone...
