Hullo, I was perusing your Helmet planes in the photo section. I noted that a couple looked like they were un-painted, is that accurate? Or did those particular planes come from another company? I've looked at the Helmet site with great interest, but their prices are way out of my budget.

Return from Cancon 2013

by Carl_Brisgamer on 03-06-2013 at 05:32
After a fantastic three days of WGS gaming over the Australia Day long weekend Tuesday morning 29 January 2013 saw me back on the road early. I was intending to drive the 1260km from Canberra to my home in Brisbane in one day - and I almost made it too!

On the way however I stopped to visit the scene of a terrible wartime tragedy which occurred on 5 August 1944 at the little NSW country town of Cowra.

Road to Cancon 2013 - Australian War Memorial (Part Two)

Moving on from the 'Air Power in the Pacific' exhibit you enter the ANZAC Hall featuring aircraft of WW2 in Europe.

The Avro Lancaster B1 'G for George' takes pride of place here.

"G for George" flew ninety operational missions over Germany and occupied Europe during the height of the bomber offensive. From the time it was built in 1942 until its retirement from active service in 1944, the bomber was flown by

Road to Cancon 2013 - Australian War Memorial (Part One)

by Carl_Brisgamer on 02-28-2013 at 02:21

On the Friday of Cancon 2013 the convention hall was not opening at midday, giving me a free morning. Whenever I'm in Canberra there is one place I always visit, the Australian War Memorial. Established as a national memorial to all Australian soldiers, sailors and airmen who had fallen in the South African War and the Great War construction started in the late 1920's and the original building was completed in 1941. Since then it has expanded to include

Road to Cancon 2013 - Temora Aviation Museum

by Carl_Brisgamer on 02-10-2013 at 02:43
As I made good time on Day 1 of the Brisbane to Canberra trip I had time for a detour to the small town of Temora on Day 2. Temora is the home of the Temora Aviation Museum, home to the No. 10 Elementary Flying Training School (10 EFTS) set up by the RAAF in May 1941 under the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS) during the Second World War. Their website is here: http://www.aviationmuseum.com.au/

On the Road to Cancon 2013

by Carl_Brisgamer on 02-09-2013 at 18:11
I left Brisbane at 1000hrs and made good time, doing the 950 kilometres to the central NSW city of Dubbo in just over 12 hours.

I took a few photos on the first leg of my trip through the rural plains of central NSW:
