Origins Lend Lease 2014 - Day 2

07:20 am We went down to the little restaurant and I ordered a Café Latte, a Bagel with egg, ham & Swiss cheese and a Muffin.

The person behind the desk asked for my surname (Sven) and cared for the order.

A few minutes later “Seven” is called to get his breakfast. That’s me.

07:30 am Ken gave us a call and I went with the Bagel & the Café up to unlock the room with his mobile chair in it.

08:00 am I took a look around the empty miniature gaming hall. Zvezda had arranget a 10 meter long gaming table with a winter scenario 3d map.

It’s a huge gaming area.

Karl (Jager) is preparing his “Contact Patrol” WGF scenario. Unfortunately I missed both of his WGF missions.

08:45 am I found an interesting 1942 gaming setup for the Axis & Allies Global version! Never heard before of this “tournament setup” for A&A global.

09:30 am We were in battle again and defend an US-Navy troop transport versus incoming Jap Vals and Zeroes.

Riley is my wingman and I think we did a good job. None of the Jap bombers reached the transport.

You can see from the left: Riley, Randy (controlled the Vals), a guest in green shirt (Jap pilot), CappyTom (in a Zero) and Keith (in a Zero)

Victorious Navy pilots!

11:00 am to 12:00 pm Shopping in the Ares Games area in another hall.

They had really good offers. Buy two pieces of a kind and get the third for free. This was possible for basic games like the SoG Starter sets, too!

Eric bougt a few ships. I think 3x sloops, 3x frigates and 3x 1st rates.

12:00 pm – 03:00 pm “The Lineup”

One of the most interesting SoG games of the Con, in my opinion. 2x 1st rates and 3x 3rd rates on each side, formed up in a line. The player were able to talk about the order in the line and had the possibility to talk to each other every third turn.

From the left: A guest, Captain of the first 3rd rate in the French line, Susan (assisted Eric), Eric (host) and Keith (Captain of a British 1st rate and a Britisch 3rd rate)

Michael volunteered for the command of a British 3rd rate that had passed the French line, nearly wrecked. The Original Captian (a guest) left the battle for unknown reason.

He played nice songs on his ukulele during the game, adjusted to the game situation. It was so funny.

Of course his ship was sunk soon after he took command, but he returned with a frigate and sunk one of my badly damaged 3rd rates.

The most brilliant & brave action of this battle. Keith’s (the first Sealord at the Anchorage) ships went with the wind, tried to break into the French line and to destroy the enemy ships with raking shots.

Unfortunately the French 1st rate turned to the left and fired a raking shot into the advancing 3rd rate.

03:00-06:00 pm CappyTom, Michael and Randy setup the “Taking out the Radar” WGS mission.

CappyTom was the game master, Michael and Randy were RAF pilots.

Snapshot with my friend Tom.

You can see Bill (a guest), a Bf.109 escort fighter pilot, in the picture on the left, too.

I volunteered to control all 4 Stukas in this game without altitude rules. A suicide job but it was a lot of fun.

Bill’s cool shirt!

It was a massacre for my Stukas and the RAF shot the first wave completely down.

Then I had the idea formed a “Stuka Alley” and to overload the brave RAF defenders with a continuous stream of Stukas.

It worked and I took out one radar site and bombed onother without effect.

07:00 pm – 11:00 pm The “Wings of Glory Invitational 2014” tournament.

I started with an agile Nieuport randomly decided by a card deck with WW I pictures on it. A nice repaint from Keith.

A huge area of 8 gaming mats!

Keith hosted the game and Eric helped to keep record of the aerial victories.

From the left to the right:

Keith (Col. Hajj) and 4 Central Power pilots: Ken (Cowman), Mark (guest), Bob (BBSuds) and Tommas (TommyZ)

From the left to the right:

5 Central Power pilots: Thomas (redcoon2), Bob (a guest), CappyTom, Ann (MissDomingo), Michael (Azredshoe)

From the left to the right:

Central Powers: Riley, Brian? (a guest), Karl (Jager)

Entente: Jason? (a guest), Randy (BlackSheepOne)

From the left to the right:

Entente pilots: Randy (again), Phillip (MilColl73), Susan, Eric (7eat51) and Hugh (Hugh59)

(Imagine me between Eric and Hugh)

From the left to the right:

Entente pilots: Beth (TrenchWench), Daniel (a guest) and his son (Dan)

Beth told me, that she didn’t score many aerial victiories during the day. She then shot down two enemies at this tournament.

You can’t see it on the picture, but Daniel is a huge person (and a good pilot). I played the SoG mission ”Isles of march” with him for the Brits. He sat beside me and when we stood up at the end of the game, I found out that he’s two heads taller than me.

I spotted Entente planes with the famous cow camouflage!

The list of the tournament players.

Susan, scored the very first aerial victory in this tournament and won the very first Invitational Tournament medal! A historical moment.

She’s a modest and friendly person and has good pilot abilities. It was nice to meet her at Origins.

Congratulation, Eric.

10:00 pm I changed side for a souvenir picture with the Central Power pilots, Mark, Bob and Thomas.

Thomas shot me down once, after this encounter I fought versus Bob and was shot down again by Thomas.

The infamous double boom!

I guess Thomas (redcoon2) used explosive round to get rid of my Camel.

We had a really good and funny fight during the tournament. Thomas survived the whole 4 hours with his starting plane and won the 1st price.

“Who needs a damage card for shooting?”

“Hands up!”

11:00 pm The proud match winner!

In general I have to say the Ohio pilots and the two pilots from Illinois (Sue & Eric) performed very well.

Congratulations.

11:30 pm We went for the obligatory last beer at the bar to finish the successful second day in style.

Great pictures! I remember we shared the same enthusiasm in the same game in 2013. It was the climax of the Origins!
    Fantastic people and atmosphere
I recall Thomas as a perfect flyer as well!

Strange - I was flying a N17 as well right from the start through the whole battle until received the boom card

But a a double boom?! What about a new call sign for our dearest friend Sven, chaps?

Love reading these Sven! They are great reminders for the fun times we had together. If only we could do it every year with all our past Lend-Lease members.

Andy, you should take a quick look under Sven's user name next time you read one of his posts
