Origins Lend Lease 2014 – Day 1

I slept well and ignored the 6 hour time zone difference to the Central European time.

07:00 am woke up in the hotel room with a nice view on the Columbus highways.

07:20 am Keith and Riley picked Randy & me up for the breakfast

08:00 am on the way to the gaming location.

The hotel had a direct connection to the Greater Columbus Convention Center, were the Origins game fair took place.

We met Eric (7eat51) and Bob (BBSuds) in the hall. They talked about Sails of Glory stuff and Eric’s handmade SoG ruler.

Riley helped to arrange the prices for the games & tournaments.

All hands to fix the Pacific gaming surface on the tables.

A quick look on the treasures, Keith brought to Origins.

Can you identify the Nieuport that won a painting contest?

Hard to keep an overview.

A lot of WoG and SoG games with a length of 120, 180 and 240 minutes!

09:00 am The first mission “A picture is worth a 1000 men”, hosted by Keith.

Here you can see Phillip (milcoll73), CappyTom, Thomas (redcoon2) and Keith.

10:00 am Eric’s first Sails of Glory game “Safe and secure or Captured and Confiscated” started. Susan his wife and good spirit of the Con is sitting to his right. (at the moment – later she changed sides to the British)

I joined in for the French.

A last advice for the British captains. Their mission was to protect the disabled British 1st rate in the middle of the table, before the French can destroy it.

But the French were victorious. Lane (a guest) and me after the game.

11:00 am I switched from the Napoleonic area to the WW II Pacific theater. Cappy Tom hosted a WGS game with B-25 Mitchell bomber formations with P40 escorts versus KI-84 “Franks”.

As far as I can remember, Randy supported him with the control of the medium bombers.

We had a lot of fun to decimate Tom’s Mitchell bombers.

Wrong game – but the giant Space Marine at the entrance of the gaming hall was impressive.

02:00 pm My second SoG game of the day. Another well hosted game by Eric. He did a great job and explained the game very patient to the beginners.

Here you can see my fellow French captains.

Thomas (TommyZ) on the left and two other British captians. They did their best, but the French drawed-out the higher damage tokens and won the game again.

04:00 pm I joined in a WGF mission “Bombing of London”. Gotha bombers had to cross the gaming mat and return to score.

A nice game hosted by Keith.

Here you can see Riley, Randy, a guest, Bob and his lady Beth (Trench Wench).

Nice shirt Bob.

An epic battle.

I commanded the light blue Gotha and Keith himself was my wingman in the dark blue Gotha.

Randy gave us a good fight in his Camel with the blue markings.
.

06:00 – 07:00 pm Randy, Michael, CappyTom and me went for a beer in a restaurant next to the Convention Center.

Randy ordered some food to go.

Interesting meal. The sausage looked very German.

I had to take a picture for my report.

Short break for Keith and Riley, too.

07:00 pm My last official game of the day: “The isles of March”

I changed sides and played for the British side.

Wrong decision!

The other British ship ran into a sandbank and I lost my crew due to a lot of crew hits.

09:30 pm We payed a quick WGS sidematch without altitude rules. Michael had to draw-out a damage token.

BOOM! Randy’s P40 exploded in the air.

Right beside him: TommyZ

Although tired we had a good time.

Eric joined us.

He asked for a little bit advice for WGS gaming, but showed talent. (He prooved his talent two days later in a Spitfire IX)

10:45 pm The day ended in the hotel bar with a few drinks.

You can see me, Riley, Bob, Eric and Randy. Great comrades.

Karl (Jager) joined us during the day and had a beer with us.

It was an amazing first day.
